Find Casper A FURever Home
Finding homes is my job, but it’s also my hobby. I have a soft spot for rescue dogs, especially after adopting my Rudy from the Franklin County Shelter in 2009. We have fostered dozens of dogs and love seeing a pup go home to his or her forever home. Find special pups who need a home here.
Meet Casper
Our little medical wonder, Casper, is an estimated 6-month-old medium-sized mixed-breed.
He was found on the side of a road in rural Ohio. Casper was malnourished, full of worms, and had no use of his back legs. Some amazing humans took him in and brought him to the shelter who contacted us, asking for help.
He is a puppy that is always happy and full of life. He loves a soft bed and cuddling with his favorite stuffies. His tail is always wagging 100 mph. He LOVES spending time with his fur brothers and sister, whether it be wrestling, sharing a bone, or cuddling on the couch. Casper is CRUSHING potty and crate training. He sleeps through the night without any issues!
Casper is truly the sweetest soul. You can see in his eyes how appreciative he is that STS took him in and his foster family is giving him a start to a better life.
When we rescued Casper, it was suspected he was a swimmers puppy based on his physical exam and symptoms. He is with one of our amazing foster families that have rehabilitated many swimmers puppies for STS. After some time, they suspected he didn't have swimmers as he wasn't responding to normal therapy. Their suspicions were confirmed with X-rays. He has a spinal deformity that is making his back legs not function normally. Casper recently saw a specialist at MedVet. Based on his X-ray, the bottom part of one of his vertebrae is missing. They are unsure if this is because of a traumatic event or due to a genetic disorder. Since Casper isn't exhibiting any pain, it's in our best interest to let him be a puppy and work on building the muscles in his legs (cue the wheelchair). CASPER WILL NEED A FENCED YARD!
